Born and educated in Birmingham, Eleanor Whitfield devoted her life to understanding how human beings acquire, process, and share knowledge in the digital age. Her research has been cited over 800 times in academic literature, translated into seven languages, and taught in universities across four continents.
But when she walked out of the lecture hall for the last time in 2018, she faced a question that had long troubled her: why should the finest academic thinking remain locked behind expensive journals and university paywalls? The answer was CyberGrid — a platform built on the radical idea that world-class knowledge belongs to everyone.
